Asheville, North Carolina Proposal Story

It was a cold, frigid New Years Day as me and my partner headed up the mountain to capture a surprise proposal at Chestoa View Overlook for Lexy and Ally. A gorgeous spot nestled off the Blue Ridge Parkway an hour drive outside of Asheville, North Carolina.

I’d spent the past few days planning with Lexy and Ally’s mom and sister on the perfect plan to make sure Ally was surprised by it all. It’s not my first time faking a family shoot turned proposal so I knew what we had to do and turned on my acting skills – at this point, someone get me an Oscar.

It was so sweet to experience the excitement of Ally’s sister as her and her husband prepared the perfect set-up of roses, custom flower arrangements and candles lining the path to a happy ever after. Despite the cold temperature and light sleeting, we were all buzzing with excitement.

I met the family and did my best performance to date and already consulted with Lexy on our buzzword for starting the descent down to the beautiful scene before them. Though I probably looked like a crazy person because I was running to make sure I was well ahead of them as they made their way down the stairs.

My partner was alongside me, helping me capture the best video footage since this was a photo + video package proposal (video at the end!).

With Eres Tú by Carla Morrison playing in the background while we overlooked the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains – it was like a scene from a romance movie.

Lexy and Ally are high school sweethearts – a testament to their ability to grow together and choose each other in various stages of their lives.

It was no surprise that Ally said yes and I probably teared up a little bit because I just love witnessing love!

I have to give it to the family too – they waited patiently and out of sight while Lexy and Ally had their moment. Giving them privacy to soak up the excitement and still be able to celebrate the special occasion right after it happened. I loved being able to capture the love this family has for this special couple.

We finished their session with a mini engagement shoot – another opportunity for them to soak in the moment with just them and their new relationship status!

I am so excited for these two and wish them the best in this new chapter! It’s always such a joy to capture proposals and witness such magical moments between two people! Check out the video below 🙂
